QUESTION
What are CRY ALERTS?

ANSWER
Babies make all sorts of sounds, from gurgling and snuffling to chatting and crying. Cry alerts won’t alert you to every little snuffle, but only when your child is making a loud noise. A cry alert only sounds when the Parent unit is on mute (by setting the parent unit volume to zero).
Important: If the screen’s off or in sleep mode, it will come on when there is a cry alert. If your baby settles, a cry alert will stop automatically after 30 seconds.
What happens if there’s more than one alert? You’ll always see the latest one on the screen. If you dismiss the latest alert you’ll see the previous one.

The threshold level to activate a Crying Alert is 83dBA SPL or the first red indicator on the Parent Unit

  1. Good monitor, we use it all the time Review by Julie

The price originally was a big consideration but we have found the monitor and camera awesome. We use all the time not just at night. I find the picture quality at night isnt great especially when you have zoomed in. Our bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house and about 20m apart and there have only been a handful of dropouts and is only out for a few seconds. The cords aren't particularly long , we have mounted our camera on a wall shelf and it just reaches.
Being able to talk through is great especially when I need to instruct Miiss 4 to pop a dummy back in (Posted on 3/05/17)

This monitor is easy to set up and use. I love using the white noise and nature sounds, it helps my baby stay asleep when there are loud noises. It's great being able to pan the camera and zoom. I still get good enough range to be outside hanging the washing too. And lastly the temperature gauge is helpful, it alerts you when it's too hot or too cold. At first it was showing a slightly higher temp than what the room actually was, but I could calibrate it to fix this so no problems. I'd recommend if you have any issues just read the user guide as that helped me! It sounds like Oricom are happy to help too. (Posted on 13/02/17)

We brought the Oricom monitor after purchasing some cheap target unit which was terrible, after moving to the Secure870 we are really happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. It has a great picture, very clear and the night vision works well. The ability to pan and tilt is awesome and the functionality of the light show and built in sounds are great. Battery life of the parent units is also good and it charges very fast, only had issues with signal when moved far away from the main unit but otherwise its been great. Very happy customer. 4. Terrible monitor Review by Kirk

Purchased this monitor as we were having our third baby and didn't want three individual monitors.
We recently sent one back as it constantly dropped out of signal, you could barely see the picture in night vision and would make a big clunking noise when it would swap from one camera to another.
We have just received a replacement monitor and have to say it's just as bad. Picture quality (if you can even get a signal) is terrible. We even decided to keep our old Uniden monitor in our newborn room as we just can't rely on the signal and even with the montior being in our daughters room now which the room is actually closer than where we put the 1st purchased Oricom monitor its still dropping out of signal.
The beeping in the middle of the night because it's dropping out of range is EXTREMELY Frustrating especially when you have a 6 month old you are up with during the night. I feel the montior keeps me awake more than our baby (if that's even possible).
I also find the light from the monitor is too bright would be better if it was able to be turned down , it is handy however if you need to check on the kids in the night and don't have to then turn on another light.
I personally wouldn't recommend this monitor as I don't feel it is reliable enough to use and forget going outside with it if you need to hang washing up or something. While your children are asleep.
Looks like we are just going back to the three individual monitors.

ORICOM RESPONSE: Hi Kirk, We are sorry to hear of your experience, it does not sound like your monitor is working the way it should, maybe we could also help you with some of the features if you are able to contact we would like the opportunity to assist. Ph. 1300 889 785 (Posted on 16/12/16)

  7. Two faulty cameras so far Review by Dee

We have been through two faulty cameras so far. The first one had a light show which could never be turned off. Our baby found it way to fascinating and would not go to sleep so we had to return it. The second one, the cry alert would not work when our baby was actually crying but would go off randomly in the middle of the night when we were all fast sleep. Exactly what you don't want from a baby monitor. So far we are very disappointed with this camera especially given the price.

ORICOM RESPONSE: Hi Dee, we are sorry you have had these two issues with your monitor. We hope that you are happy with the replacement that has been arranged and if you need any assistance at all please feel free to contact us again. Sincerely, Oricom Baby Care (Posted on 17/11/16)

  8. Good and bad Review by Monica

We bought the SC870 for our first baby and use it daily. There are some good and bad points to this camera:-

    GOOD
    - The night vision is really handy
    - I love the fact that the time and temperature are on the parent console
    - Very easy to control the night light, lullabies and lightshow from the parent console (although we don't actually use these)
    - There is a constant blue light on the camera which lights the room enough at night to feed and tend to baby
    - Good battery life
    - Easy to pan the camera around the room
    - It's very easy to use

    BAD
    - The signal constantly drops out which is extremely frustrating, even in the next room with the door open
    - The picture is fuzzy, and the zoom is pointless as the picture just becomes one big blurry mess
    - We had to stick the camera base onto its surface as when panning the room the base just spun on its spot so the camera could not pan
    - As I am still sleeping next to my baby I do not need the monitor overnight, but if I turn the parent console off there is a constant flashing light

Overall we are reasonably happy with this monitor although there are definitely improvements that could and should be made, especially for the price!! If I could go back to making this purchase I would seriously question whether the extra features are worthwhile, as we don't even use them. I would actually save my money and buy a basic sound/video monitor.

ORICOM RESPONSE: Dear Monica, Thank you for your review. We may be able to assist with some of the "BAD" points mentioned - we will contact you via the email address you have provided. (Posted on 13/11/16)

The picture quality is terrible, nothing like picture on advertising and box, especially when zoomed in, no point in having this function if it does not work. It keeps loosing signal (baby's room is 6m away). I was given a target brand cheapy that works much better and 1/4 of the price.

  10. Would not recommend Review by Olivia

After having the Oricom Secure 710 and using it happily for two years with our first born; we decided to "upgrade" to this model as it had newer features and we needed multiple screen capabilities and pan and zoom as we were having twins and wanted to see all three children clearly. The quality of the monitor is worse than any other monitor I've ever seen. The footage on the screen isn't as clear as the 710 model (not even close) and there is no option to have the screen off yet to come on when there is a noise/cry alert unless the parent console is on mute. With the 710 model, you can adjust the sensitivity of noise level for when the screen AND volume in bedroom comes on so if you are in another part of the house you do not necessarily have to have your eyes peeled on the unit to hear/see the child crying. With this unit, the screen might alert but if you're not actively looking at it, you won't 'hear' or see the child crying. I'm calling Oricom to discuss a refund because it can't be used the way a monitor should be. If you're adamant about purchasing an Oricom monitor, go with an older model or steer clear altogether.

ORICOM RESPONSE: Hi Olivia, we are sorry that you are not happy with the quality of your monitor picture. We would welcome a call to see how we can help. Please phone our Customer Support Team on 1300 889 785 and quote your reference: HL71821. (Posted on 13/09/16)

Build quality is a lot better than other manufacturers. Price, whilst I feel high for what it is, is comparable if not better value than other makes. Recommend this unit & like the fact additional cameras can be added later. (Posted on 7/02/16)

  12. So far so good Review by Scott

Feels robust and I like the fact it comes with a separate stand for charging along with being able to plug it in directly. Last monitor the charging plug became faulty on another brand. Picture by day is fab, night is ok, depends on the position like most. Features are good, only nag is that Ye screen doesn't have an auto timeout. Bit like he Vox on other models, or a timer for the screen to switch off like some other brands. Price is pretty stupendous really, though I picked mine up for less than $300, which matched the old one I replaced. So happy enough. 3 year warranty is great. Range I am still testing, I have a small house, it has dropped very occasionally, which this day and age should not happen, but today has been fine. My Motorola was great on the range. Very similar units so far, except the screen auto turning off the save battery. Still go so far. (Posted on 23/01/16)
