Mobile phone technologies

Australia currently uses two mobile phone technologies—2G (Global Systems for Mobile Communications) and 3G (Third Generation) is the newer technology

2G Phones

2G phones like the Oricom ezy100 are suitable for people who want basic features such as voice calls, text messaging and voice mail services.

Millions of Australian’s use 2G mobile phone providers service.

3G Phones

3G phones are the next evolutionary step in mobile technology. 3G phones do not only make voice calls but allow you to make video calls, access the internet and even watch mobile television. 3G phones also have the added feature of automatically switching over to a 2G network if you move out of a 3G coverage area.

Oricom

EZY100 is unlocked giving you the freedom to choose your own phone provider

EZY100 will require a mobile phone SIM card to operate

EZY100 will operate on any Australian 2G mobile network

EZY100 will only operate in areas covered by 2G network coverage. In Practice this covers 90%+ plus of the population.

We recommend that if consumers have any concerns regarding coverage that they check this with their mobile carrier. Network coverage maps are available online from all carriers website

Have been looking a long time for a simple phone just to use and have as a phone only without any other high tech. Also as younger people. But unfortunately we really need the Bluetooth on it in the car especially for work. As we expected this to be a standard these days we forgot to check it out before ordering. So there are now sitting 2 of them in Darwin we don't need if anyone wants them? (Posted on 2/01/12)

I have bought this phone for my dad who is challenged by electronic gagets so therefore it should be esy for him to use. I have found that the setting up of the phone can be be basic but one concern is with the tap method of entering Data (Phone entries ETC.) is a little hard as the text mode ie: Upper case, Lower Case, and Numeral logo on the screen is so small, I had trouble checking it myself.
Also, why has the phone got data storage for Audio and Pictures but no way of accessing a way to add to this storage.
Is this a dead area of the phone?
    My Dad will ask me..
Thank you for supporting the needs of persons with SPECIAL needs. (Posted on 14/12/11)

My father bought one a couple of days ago. He's 75, I checked it out and was very impressed. I'm a carpenter and have been looking for a simple, sturdy & easy to use phone without all the other rubbish that seems to go with them. It's loud - great for a noisy job site, easy to read in all light conditions, and fits well in the hand. The only accessory that I'd like to see is a sturdy case for to be housed in. This phone is not just for the elderly, but for anyone who wants a no nonsense phone. (Posted on 26/11/11)

Bought it for my elderly mother. I had to set it up for her, and explain how to use it, but now she loves it! Nice and loud. Easy to read. The desktop charging cradle makes it easy to charge. Compatible with gotalk Prepaid Mobile. (Posted on 30/10/11)

Grandmother uses it and she loves it. I went to Hearing Care at salisbury in John street the looked after me well. The clinician was great
We definitely recommend them. They sell most of the Oricom products there. (Posted on 26/09/11)

Bought it for my Mum who is in respite care at the moment. The new place doesn't have phones in the rooms & Dad is missing not being able to call her 3 times a day terribly.
It is easy for her to work & she loves it too !! A word of warning tho' DO NOT go to "Affordable" hearing at John St Salisbury .... they will try & charge you $200 for the phone. I went to Hearing Life at Modbury triangle & was helped by a lovely Lady. Plus it only cost me $99.95!! Once again it's a great phone & the desktop charger makes it even easier for an older person to use! Just Brilliant!! (Posted on 22/07/11)

i brought this for my mum who has hearing and vision issues. I was really exited because all phones are small touch screen and not suitable for mum. When i put her sim card in it didnt work. She is with Three and this phone isnt compatible. i was disappointed because i finally found a phone that was big enough for mum to see and hear. (Posted on 5/05/11)

I just bought this for my 87 year old mother. She loves the big buttons and can easily navigate the phonebook-which she couldn't do previously even on the easy Nokia. I have set up the emergency button with the needed numbers-just a couple of questions on this as I no longer have the manual with me. Does the phone need to be turned on first before you activate the em. button? When dialling through the em. numbers if she gets an answering machine or is switched through to message bank does she need to hang up on that call or does it eventually switch on to the next number. Can't recommend this phone highly enough-has given me peace of mind. (Posted on 26/01/11)

Bought two of these for my parents, 82 & 85 and they love them. I set up my Mums as she didn't have a sim card. They were delighted and just love the feel of the mobiles, the size, the screen, the big numbers and that they both have the same mobile. Its wonderful that the company are supplying mobiles for this sector of the market. And we'll all be in that sector one day. I wanted my folks to have a mobile that was especially for them, rather than my cast offs which were always too small. Its simple, easy to use and they are so excited. So thank you Oricom. I couldn't be happier and so are my parents. (Posted on 12/06/10)

Just found out about this phone & was about to buy it for my 87yo Dad - BUT - then I discovered it is GSM only. Dad is on Three' 3G network & they charge a fortune to roam to Telstra's GSM network.

So PLEASE tell me that there is a 3G version of this phone coming soon !!

    FROM ORICOM:

Yes the ezy100 is 2G. If your using your 2G phone to call someone with a 3G phone there are no roaming charges.

At this stage we have no plans to offer a 3G phone as it is significantly more expensive than 2G to produce. Our research shows that the additional features that 3G offers (such as high speed data) are not required by our target customer. (Posted on 22/05/10)

Bought this for my father aged 79 as he had previously struggled with Nokia phone, even a simple one. The quick dial M1,2 and 3 keys are great as he only dials three people regularly! Highly recommend for those who just want a good phone with absolutely no frills. Well thought out for older people who are not techno savvy. (Posted on 18/02/10)
